I can't quite explain why I don't like it, but it sounds so much like someone who has had a silver spoon in their mouth and they have unlimited amounts of money to just buy whatever they want. It's probably just a personal bugaboo and I should get over it!
Anyway, one of the items I picked up during a recent trip to CVS to look at all the holiday clearance was a little set of eye shadows by the Color Workshop called On the Glow Glam. It has 3 small rectangular palettes that have 8 eye shadows on each, with a total of 24 colors. Each eye color was about the size of a penny It comes a some sponge tip applicators and a mirror. It retails for $4.99 but with the 75% clearance, you only pay $1.25!
This is a mix of mattes and shimmers, and a good variety of both cool and warm colors.
Here's what you get....by the way, these were all swatched over Wet N Wild Stay the Day eye primer.
Drama Queen
Starting from top, the first set of 8 eye shadows are shade of gray and pinks. This set of 8 is called Drama Queen.
Here's a pic of these colors up close with swatches.

As you can see by the swatches, the color payoff is hit and miss. By far the best color payoff is in the burgundy color, which actually comes of red and the black color. The other colors are very sheer, and I don't really see the color as being very buildable. They colors seem to blend pretty well with a good brush. I think the white color is a little powdery.
Sun Goddess
The middle set of 8 is called Sun Goddess. This is more golds, neutrals, and greens.

I was a little disappointed when I first swatched these colors because I really bought this set because of the shimmery light green and light peach color (and the shimmery blue in the Aqua Bella palette!)
Anyway, as you can see in the pictures, the shimmer just doesn't translate. In fact most of the colors had a matte and satin finish.
I went ahead and did an eye makeup look with these and I really really liked it. The colors blended together well and they lasted all day (18 hours).
Aqua Bella
The blues and purples are grouped together in one palette called Aqua Bella.

These colors by far had the most color payoff. I actually swatched these first and was glad because they really made me feel like I didn't waste my money.
Thee shimmery blues actually did have a nice shimmer that wasn't too overwhelming. I love the purples because there is a nice matte lilac color.
The final verdict:
- I think these colors are not too bright but still nice and wearable for the office environment I work in
- The light colors are very sheer but will be nice lid and highlight colors
- The darker colors are pigmented and do blend out when using a good brush (don't use the sponge applicators)
- There are a few misses but more hits to make this worth the $1.25 I paid for it!
Happy bargain hunting!
